Family Morning
Family Mornings take place every Friday and are a much‑loved part of our weekly routine at Elmwood Infant School. These sessions offer families the chance to come into school, spend time learning alongside their children and become more involved in everyday school life. Any family member is welcome to attend, including parents, carers, grandparents or another trusted adult who regularly supports the child.
Family Mornings run from 8.40am to 9.40am. From 8.40am to 9.10am, families join their children in the classroom. This time is designed to give you a real sense of what learning looks like across the school.
In our Early Years classrooms, a range of play‑based activities are available for families to enjoy together. These might include creative tasks, construction, building activities and opportunities to see early learning in action. Teachers are also available to talk about reading, phonics and any questions you may have about your child’s development.
In Key Stage 1, families are invited to read with their children using phonics books and class stories. You may also observe how reading groups work, which can help you with supporting reading at home.
At 9.10am, families move to the school hall for tea, coffee and cakes until 9.40am. This is a relaxed time to meet other parents, chat informally with staff and take part in a short workshop if you wish. Workshops change each week and cover a range of areas that help families understand how children learn and how to support them at home.
Family Mornings are a warm, welcoming and positive way to start the day, and we are always delighted to see so many families taking part. They help strengthen the connection between home and school and create a happy, supportive community for all our children.
