School Arrangements – from 4th January 2021

Online Learning from Monday 4th January

Dear Parents and Carers,

Following the government announcement last night, I am writing to confirm that Croydon has been included in the list of areas where a restriction on the number of children allowed in school has been implemented. This means that Elmwood Infant School will move to online learning for all children except vulnerable pupils and those of critical workers. This includes Nursery children, as detailed in the DfE’s Contingency Framework. Whilst disappointed that we are not able to welcome all of the children back into the building just yet, I believe that this is the right decision for our community.

From Monday 4th January 2021, online learning will commence via the SeeSaw platform for Years 1 and 2 and through Evidence Me for Nursery and Reception. We will also re-establish the weekly phone call to you from your child’s class teacher or a member of the leadership team to make sure you have the help and support you need throughout this challenging time. Please listen out for this phone call, which is likely to be from an unknown number. We’ll leave you a message if you don’t answer and will keep trying so that we know that you and your family are safe and well.

If you have previously registered your details as a critical worker with us and need to book a school place for your child, please email support@elmwood-inf.croydon.sch.uk as soon as possible. It is important that you confirm the days of the week that you require so that we can ensure the right staffing levels are in place . Please only send your child into school if you have no options available to you. Staff will be on the playground on Monday morning to direct your child to a year group bubble, where they will remain for the duration of the school closure period. Your child will be with other children from the year group and not just with children from their own class.

Parents and carers of vulnerable pupils will receive a separate text message, offering your child a place. We expect to see your child in school on Monday and will discuss any questions or queries with you then.

A weekly food parcel will be available for any child entitled to a benefits-related free school meal as the government will not be issuing vouchers. If you would like us to prepare a parcel for you to collect, please email support@elmwood-inf.croydon.sch.uk to confirm.

Please continue to let us know if you or your child test positive for Covid-19 and do not hesitate to contact us if you have any other queries or worries. Use the weekly phone call with your child’s class teacher to raise any issues you may have or contact us using: support@elmwood-inf.croydon.sch.uk.

We will be in touch again very soon.

With warm wishes

Zoe Harris – Headteacher
Sherifa Turawa & Ife Dawodu – Co-Chairs of the Governing Board
